Why Email May Not Get You There

from our friends at Ripon Printers

We don't need to tell you that email and other digital communications are generally viewed as cheap and impersonal, especially in the prospecting stage. But the challenges of email go way beyond personalization. People also get far too much email and other forms of online overload.

A study by the Radicati Group, Email Statistics Report: 2014-2018, says that individual corporate email accounts averaged 121 messages sent and received per day in 2014, up from 77 in 2012, and projected to grow to 140 by 2018.

Twelve percent of those emails actually received are spam, which excludes spam caught by filters as well as graymail that encompasses unwanted newsletters and alerts. It's all part of what makes the delete button so easy to hit, both at the office and at home on your personal account.

On the other hand, people view direct mail as more relational, particularly when well-targeted and containing personalized content. That's why the U.S. Postal Services Household Study shows that eight out of 10 households report reading or scanning direct mail they receive at home.
