How print buyers are affected by recent US Census results

Answered by Dick Gorelick

As a buyer of print, how am I affected by the recently released results of the 2000 U.S. census?

Many print buyers should consider the two major trends: the aging of the population and the increase in the ethnic population. Type size is a very important consideration among seniors. I see frequent use of type sizes and fonts that older Americans will have difficulty reading. Consider that fact when specifying type. Also consider the importance of bilingual documents. For most readers of this newsletter, use of Spanish would be the logical consideration, but there are areas of the country in which there are substantial Oriental and Russian populations.
