Question:
What does the term "RIP" mean?

J.L.

Answer:
RIP is an abbreviation for raster image processor, which is a device that translates page description commands into rasters for an output device such as a laser printer or imagesetter. Because of the abbreviation RIP, converting images to rasters is known as ripping images.

In layman’s terms, it is basically the device that a print supplier uses to translate your file into a language that can be understood by their imaging devices. I hope this helps.
