Can offset papers be used for digital printing (and vice versa)?

Question:
Can offset papers be used for digital printing (and vice versa)?

Answer:
The short answer is yes. BUT depending on the specific stock, the printing quality may not meet your expectations – or your customers’. An offset paper that prints well on an offset press is not likely to perform well under digital printing conditions. Digital printing papers are made specifically to perform under the high-heat/low-moisture conditions of a digital printer or press. Offset papers are manufactured to perform with the low-temperature offset transfer process and liquid inks.

Few papers perform exceptionally well under both conditions. Using the right paper for the printing process – whether digital or offset – eliminates one variable in print production that can cause problems and impact productivity.
